Poole Dolphins 2014/15 Season Review Statement

Appearances

We welcomed three new young players to the Dolphins squad this season and welcomed Lee mid way through, using a total of 29 players in the league, 13 of which make 10 or more appearance, surpassing last season dismal 8.

Matches

I am going to try to avoid mentioning any names in this section for fear of missing someone out!  Division 10 is always tricky, new teams enter the league in this Division many of who are always far too strong for the league.  This was shown again this season with the gap between third and fourth places (22 points) being twice that of fourth and bottom of the league (11 points).

The first half of the season was tough, just a solitary point collected before Christmas.  We made ourselves harder to beat after the New Year and picked up points at home to Yateley and Fleet & Ewshot who were and finished fourth, these were both games that controlled for extended periods.  Then in our penultimate game, we got the win our season deserved as two youngsters scored their first goals for the club in our victory. Just a week later another young player opened his account as we led against third place Hamble right up until the break.

We might have still finished bottom, but we earned 50% more points than last season and despite 2 8-0, a 9-0 and a 10-1 defeat we only conceded 2 more goals than last season.

Goal Scoring

Seven players scored our 15 goals this season, 2 of which came in a tricky preseason games.  David Jeffrey played just 3 matches for the Dolphins including one in goal and topped our league scorers with 3.  Four players netted twice. Discipline In the league only one player received a green card this season, although he did get three of them all for the same offence!

Injuries

Thankfully we only received one serious injury this season and thankfully Mark Nevitt remembered his was to Camberley A&E where Adam received treatment for his hand injury

Off the Field

Players bonding remains a very important part of the club and since the last AGM Dolphin players have enjoyed Paintballing and many of the players took the opportunity attend the Hockey 5s event at Wembley to watch out country’s elite clubs.  I have also been pleased to see so many Dolphins helping out at the two Junior Festivals that we hosted this season.

Thanks

As always Dolphins is not about the 11 players on the pitch of 15 or so in the match day squad.  Much support from families is needed to get a team to a match and on behalf of the club and with the players I would like to thank all the parents and supporters who trek across Hampshire and the surrounding areas.

Personally I would like to thank Andy for once again mentoring me through the tougher decisions.

And one other person who attends matches and supports both me and the other senior players with match day choices and advice and he has also been invaluable running the bench and looking after the players when I am playing, and as I mentioned doing the hospital runs, Mark.

Summary

Once we broke the bad habit of losing things started to feel positive.  I really want to keep the momentum going for these players and I am hopeful for some Summer Hockey against similar ability sides is likely and looking forward September already!

Poole Ladies Promoted

As we announced in the Club AGM there was a possibility that because Bournemouth wanted to avoid having too many teams in the same division that Poole Ladies would be promoted to Channel Division One.

We are very proud to announce that at the league AGM, it was announced that Poole Ladies are now a Channel Division 1 team. Congratulations to everyone involved in the ladies side, from the players, the captain Lauren and their coach Andy. This is a massive achievement, especially considering that it was only two years ago that Poole struggled to put out a team every week and the club considered the possibility of disbanding the team.
