We are very fortunate to be able to run Junior teams offering regular fixtures throughout the season for U12 and U14 mixed squads.

Fixtures are held at various Dorset clubs on Sundays. Our u14s start the season with a 7-a-side tournament before playing full pitch 11-a-side hockey. Our u12s usually have their first tournament in October, check out our Calendar for all the fixtures.

This morning our u12s travelled to Wimborne for a 7-a-side tournament in some lovely weather but sad there was no Piggies van!

Ed stepped up to Captain the side and kicked it off with a strong warm up. We had nine players with us so took every occasion to field 8vs8 and in the final game 9vs9!

First game against Blandford saw Toby score a well worked goal but sadly Blandford immediately turned around and scored against us resulting in final score 1-1.

Second game we took on Wimborne with the last tournament’s head injury fresh in our minds I stepped on field to umpire. Lots of chances for both sides with Fin being directive at our attacking penalty corners; Harry staying strong in defence and Emilio sweeping back to help out wherever needed (still claiming he doesn’t like running though!) A great game resulting in a goalless draw.

Third game had us against Bournemouth and we worked on our communication. In the last minutes of the game Bournemouth had a strike at goal from a penalty corner... the ball was lifted, then went up a stick even higher and Monty made an impressive save to hit it over the top of the goal. (Shhh, don’t take this save away from him as it was very impressive... for more information on the rules go to the England Hockey Hub and do the online rules test 😉).

Fourth game against Weymouth and we were excited to get on the field. They had played without a keeper for every previous game so we were liking our chances!
Alas, seemingly from nowhere a keeper appeared to help them just at the start of the game but we did agree we could play 9vs9 making the pitch quite cramped at times but did help us to remember the WIDE options aka Pippa and Zoe running the lines!
Toby got into the D early on and slotted the ball on the inside post leaving the goal keeper was clearly rattled. Much pressing and opportunities followed for both sides seeing action from all players. Lola stole the ball a few times off much older players and it was fab to see her getting stuck in. Thankfully we outlasted all of Bournemouth attacks but failed to find the net again ourselves. End result WIN 1-0.

My thanks go to the parents for turning out in force but especially:
Manager Trevor Bailey for issuing shirts, collecting match fees, general corralling!
Long lensed photographer Kelly Reed who I’m sure will post some images from the game here ASAP.
And the plethora of snack food brought along by Nicola Marchant(mmmmmm Nutella sandwiches).

With the rain still flowing this morning, the fear was the Ladies 1st maybe required to brush the pitch again for the U14s, however all was fine and Poole welcomed guests from Gillingham. Straight from pushback Poole survived a very early high press and pressure before breaking out twice on the counter and slotting home for a 2-0 lead. Some backs to the wall defending for the rest of the half led to Gill stealing one before half time 2-1. The second half started my like the first, with Poole using the space out wide to get round the Gill midfield and defence putting home another 2 well worked goals. Gill got 2 late conselations with the Poole defensive seeing out a well deserved win.

Final score 4-3!

Great team performance but special mention to the midfield 3 of Jarrod, Ben and James!

u12s 6th October 2019

Well played team! 3 draws, 2 losses (although one was very questionable) and a joyous win with Zoe the goal scorer! Thanks to Trevor for rallying Team Poole - a great first tournament. Well deserved goal Zoe!
