The ladies 2s embarked on the journey to Surrey to play a midnight game against Aldershot & Farnham with Dance Monkey as the theme tune for the day. Remembering the low scoring home match at the beginning of the season we were looking forward to an evenly matched game for once. After a small gum shield drama from Eloise the match was underway and before long Heather found the backboard, positioned perfectly to take the rebound from Kirsty's shot on goal. Second goal came from a silky reverse stick sweep from Loe. Solid defensive performance from the Sarahs, Eloise (with gumshield now) and Harmony plus Emily making great saves kept the scoreline at 2-0. Just before halftime a short corner was conceded and converted by their resident golfer with her 9 iron - lucky we all kept our teeth!

We went into the second half with determination and positivity and before long Abi scored following some great team work with Tamrynn running down the line. With Kirsty linking the midfield and forwards we continued to dominate but they caught us off guard and another goal came from them. This was shortly followed by a successful short corner with Ruth slotting in Kirsty's deflected strike. A save on the line from Heather kept their goal tally at 2. Despite strong protest from Badley a short corner was awarded but remained out of the goal. Another successful short corner, with Abi securing the win and making the final score 2-5.

Special mention to Ellie for a fab debut performance! Well played ladies, superb team play and thoroughly enjoyable expedition!

As you can see from the pie chart we mostly felt like a motivated Chuck Norris!💪

MOM Eloise (votes also for Tamrynn, Abi & Badley)

DOD Badley for excellent protest and foot accusation denial - I'll keep your trophy safe until next week but here's a photo so you're not missing out on the eyes...!

Ladies 2 were away to Portsmouth 5. Debs and TJ made it just in time after racing across the county, giving us a full XI. Hopes were high when Portsmouth looked on in amazement at our warmup run and commented on how young we were (that might not have been aimed at me, but I'm taking it). And so it came to pass.... first goal scored within minutes, second one a few more minutes, and then the third, and then it was half time and we were 7-0 up. Second half was much the same but with more goals. The real concerns were how to keep Emily warm in goal, how to get everyone on the score sheet, and how to stop AJ's 'inspirational' coaching from the sideline. There was a first goal for Eloise, four for Abi, three each for Kirsty and Stacy, two for Debs, and one for me, Ruth and Harmony. Final score 16-0. Sarah Tapp got MOM for some sterling work, and Portsmouth's no 90 should have got DOD for pushing, punching (yes, literally) and general unpleasantness, but evidently it was me, for not being Abi.

It was early and cold, but on the plus side the match started on time with our new ’elbows’ chant. After some early pressure from Trojans, and some slightly dodgy one-handed dingly danglies from us, we got into our stride and Alison scored her first goal for the team driving into the D.

It was quite an even game and the defence and midfield were constantly on the move. The defence held solid – Sarah x2 plus excellent marking from Eloise and Lucy stopped Trojans making many breakthroughs. Harmony had a lie down at some point in the first half – I think something hit her – hard and it made her feel a bit off so she had a little rest.

At half time, we had a bit of chat and decided we weren’t going to be able to hit through the two main defenders and came up with a new plan to go around them. This provided to be very successful, particularly from Abi on the right wing. The player who was marking Abi had a very torrid second half as Abi just waltzed pass her on a number of occasions. After a few close shaves and some good keeping from Trojans, Jo put the ball in the back of the net.

Excellent support play from Kate, making herself available in attack constantly and good movement from Harmony and Heather up front (excellent work from two players who often play at the back), meant we were in their half more than ours and Ruth and Tamryn did some great linking play on the left. We were very glad that Emily was able to play in goal today as she saved our bacon several times.

At some point Trojans scored.

And then Abi stepped up to take a P-flick which she put away like a pro.

Trojans didn’t give up and kept coming forward and as the final whistle went had a couple of shorts. But it all worked out well and Ruth was very pleased with us.

MOM – Abi with honourable mentions to Alison and Kate

DOD – Harmony for lying down being hurt. I was second for kicking the ball in the D and shouting about dingly danglies.
