vs Gosport 2s 8th December 2018

Win 7-3

Poole came out of the blocks running and as a result took an early two goal lead courtesy of Dan P from consecutive short corners. Poole switched off momentarily however and conceded, but it wasn’t a bad strike to be fair.

Poole then pushed for not only a third, but a fourth and a fifth.Chris S carried the ball into the box and slammed it into the corner, while Ben P scored another goal from an acute angle. Dan D extended the lead with a quick readjustment of his feet to thread home a fifth. With not much longer left to play, we became complacent. Gosport caught us on the break twice, making the scoreline more respectable. Back to back bookings resulted in Poole going down to nine men, that said, Gosport had already lost a player who went home as his mum didn’t let him stay out any longer.Poole recovered quickly as they soon made it six, when Alex W slid the ball to me at left slip, and was thumped beyond the goalie and his defence.Dan D came up with his own piece of magic with perhaps the goal of the game, deflecting another Alex Warren pass onto the inside of the bar and into the net.The game finished 7-3 and kept the team in high spirits over Christmas.#wearethechampions #wearegoingup

vs Trojan 5s 1st December 2018

The 2’s traveled to Trojans 5ths today, following on from our win streaks we started the game with the heart and passion to go on and win. First 5 minutes saw us pressure them in their half, suddenly the ball was lost and they went on the break. After a few passes down the right saw there striker get on the reverse and put it past Martin to make it 1-0. A few good plays from Poole saw us win our first short corner, after 5 attempts from short corners nothing came from it. Chris Spencer picked the ball up from midfield and played a lovely one two with Potts which lead to a goal to make 1-1. Onto the second half saw us pressure them into their half and battling away to get the points. As a few plays from Trojans saw them break on the right and get the ball across the D to a wide open player on the back post to make it 2-1. After some good plays from Poole saw us miss chances and hit the post but we know we were still in the game. After a few minutes Jack W managed to pick out Potts from the sideline and took it past 3/4 players to flick it over the keepers leg to make it 2-2.
With 15 minutes to play, Chad managed to pick Potts out in the D who held the ball up and managed to reverse flick it into the bottom corner to make it 3-2. With 8 minutes to play Trojans pressed and played with passion to get points however with some Diabolical umpiring saw Jack get a green (hence the report). After some dodgy defending we managed to clear it to win the game 3-2!
Special thanks for Martin for stepping up and keeping! Made some cracking saves and kept us in the game 🙌🏻 with that all said onto next week! #UptheSeconds
Goals - 2 for D Potts, 1 for C Spencer

vs Southampton Uni 5s 24th November 2018

After our win from last week, saw us enter the game with high spirits. However we couldn’t take that for granted! Playing Southampton uni you never know what team they shall bring!!

A good start from us saw some nice passing and high pressing on the opponents D. With plenty of attempts not quite finding their way past the uni’s keeper, we managed to win a short corner. Good chance now to take the lead and thankfully we did just that!! The rebound shot flicked into the net 1-0 Poole.

Pressure then was building against us, with Southampton uni pressing high, trying to find a way back into the game. Some nice tracking back and defending kept them from scoring. A good set 16 saw the ball come from the back, into the Midfield and slotted through up top. With a 1v1 saw the ball slotted nicely past the keeper 2-0 Poole.

Half time.

Second half saw Southampton uni come out the blocks quick wanting to get back into the game. They pulled one back. 2-1. So the game was backwards and forth with chances falling to both teams. The uni managed to equalise but this we didn’t let our heads drop.

We piled on pressure and soon scored again to retake the lead. Our next goal was scored from a P flick however, some confusion over the umpires to give this! The ball had already gone in off their defender, nonetheless the flick was converted. Southampton uni still weren’t giving up, attacking our defence more and more. They scored again!! Still we had the final word scoring another and our last of the game.

Full time!! Another good win for the team. Final score 5-3 Poole.

vs Yateley 3s 17th November 2018

Our high pressing early on opened up the opportunity for Steve to score the games first goal, poking in his sixth of the season so he claims.

More counter attacking tactics resulted in our first short corner of the game, which Dan P despatched for his first of the game.

Yateley 3s were granted a chance to get into the game via a penalty flick for stopping the ball on the line with a foot. They scored making it 2-1. Moments after the game was level but we refused to let our heads go down. Despite these efforts, Yateley went a goal ahead courtesy of a contender for goal of the game, but no one wants to hear about that. So lets talk about Ben Pocknell’s.

Ben remained up high with Dan P hovering in front of the midfield. When his pass found Ben on the right hand side, virtually on the baseline, he had the surrounding defenders in his pocket, breezing past them to get himself in close on goal, but with a tight angle. This did not matter though, as his exquisite finish found the top corner, bouncing off of the upright in dramatic fashion.

We took back control of the game from here on and were rewarded for our dedication in the final two minutes of the game, as the umpire gave us a short corner, for Potts to do the rest. A low flick ricocheted off the backboard to clinch the hard fought win following a strong group performance.

End result = 4-3

vs Alton 4s 10th November 2018

Poole 2 - Alton 4

This week saw another game against a top of the table side and after our dismantling of Petersfield (then table-toppers) two weeks ago and last week's humbling of Camberly we went into the game full of confidence. Within 2 minutes we were 1-0 up thanks to Dan Dickens P-flick, won after a Daniel Potts short-corner was stopped on the line by a lackless defender's thigh. For the next 20 minutes were were all over them and should have been 3 or 4 up, but no more goals were forthcoming thanks to some goal-line saves and profligacy (look it up!) in front of goal. This all in the midst of a hail storm, followed by some vertical rain - perfect hockey conditions.

The second half saw Alton come steaming straight out of the blocks and were a totally different team, causing our defence all sorts of trouble. A mad 5 minutes saw them score twice, intersected by a rare Matt Spencer goal (who incidentally was sporting some kind of weird top-knot). So, 2-2. We then lost a man to a yellow card (dodged a bullet there Jack!) and they quickly scored a third, before Alex Warren chucked an aerial into the tennis courts (hence the match report) for a quick time out. With Poole pushing men up in search of an equaliser, Alton scored their fourth on the break with a couple of minutes to spare. A tough (and often bad-tempered) game, but a lesson in needing to take chances when they're on offer.
