Poole v Beaminster

Tough start to the game for Poole but held Beaminster off well. Most of the first 35 minutes played in Poole's attacking half applying plenty of pressure to Beaminster's defenders. Poole's persistence paid off with a goal in the first half. With a 1-0 lead into the second half of the game Beaminster was able to creep a goal past the keeper to bring it back to 1-1 on a short corner. The fight for the next goal was on, Beaminster pipped Poole to the post, quite literally, on this one and the score was 2-1 to Beaminster. With energy and time running out Poole attacked bring it to 2-2. The full time whistle blew and two well performed teams could happily say "match well played".

Finale score 2-2.

Poole V Yeovil 3

Poole ladies had the pleasure of playing away at Yeovil. It was an early start, too early for some as one of our midfielders arrived at Ashdown in her pyjamas. Unfortunately for Yeovil their tactics of trying to use sleep deprivation to catch us off guard failed. Turns out we like an early start and Jo scored the first well worked goal. Poole worked hard as a team, Danni working especially hard at collecting balls from the side line as the rest of the team forgot about having a right midfield for much of the first half. The second goal came from AJ’s excellent strike from a Poole wing it 1 0 1 penalty corner. The second half was a closer affair with Yeovil pressing more, thankfully for us some of Yeovil thought they were playing tennis lobbing balls over the defences head and giving Poole some free play. The third goal was another penalty corner. This one was clearly planned out by Ruth, Nickie and Danni beforehand and had been practiced many times before and in no way was a lucky fluke. Thankfully a goals a goal. The last few minutes saw Yeovil scored a well deserved goal, possibly because some of the Poole team had now drawn their attention to the pie and chips waiting for them after the match but despite this Poole worked hard as a team and it paid off.

Poole v Salisbury 4

The second game of the season showed a team who were a united front against more equally matched Salisbury. With plenty of communication and support for each other, we showed the opposition we were not a side to be messed with. Going 2-0 up at half time with Cathy and Tanya scoring, we were making good use of our subs to have fresh legs and lungs throughout. The second half started a little slow, as everyone was a little tired from kicking ass in the first half, but we stayed strong, and with a couple more assists from AJ, we went 3-0 up and secured a solid win.

Cathy got the well deserved man of the match award for her help in the defence and attack, whilst holding the middle strong. A good win to the first home game of the season. Nice one, ladies

Poole V Gillingham

The ladies started the league season last Saturday with an away game against a spirited Gillingham side in Channel Division 1 after winning promotion last year.  We knew it would be a tough match but with the sun shining and fresh faces to the team, we had a new lease of life and a positive attitude which put us in good stead for a promising start to the season.

The game started well and we came out fighting but it wasn’t long before Gillingham broke through and found the goal.  At half time we were facing a 5-0 defeat but we didn’t let that deflate us and went into the second half with a positive attitude.  There were a few unlucky missed opportunities on goal and the defence remained strong – the game was very much in Gillingham’s control, but we never gave up.  Despite the final 8-0 defeat the team remained positive and can use the match as an opportunity to learn and improve on.

All in all, a friendly match and good performance to start the season – looking forward to next weekend’s home match against Salisbury.  Well played to all, particularly Hazel who was awarded player of the match for a solid performance in the defence.
