Poole V Bournemouth 3rd

Spirits were high going into one of our toughest games of the season, Poole started well with everyone working hard. The defence stayed strong throughout but unfortunately Bournemouth got the first couple of goals and went 2-0 up at half time.

After a constructive half time chat from Captain Tanya, we went back out fighting and determined that we would score and goal and not let Bournemouth slip anymore pass us.

Some lovely plays up and down the pitch really working the ball to find the gaps in the strong Bournemouth defence, finally payed off and Poole got some lovely strikes on goal including a couple of short corners but we couldn’t quite find the back of the net on the day and with Bournemouth getting one more goal in the final two minutes the overall score was 3-0 to Bournemouth.

Poole V Bournemouth 4s

Poole v Bournemouth 4s

After this match reporter finally arrived for the game just in time for the 11:30 start…

With five regular players away for this game it was a great opportunity for our new members to prove themselves. The game got underway and it was Poole who controlled a lot of the ball. All too often this was lost by hit outs going straight up the centre of the pitch (sorry coach). After plenty of work Tanya slotted away a field goal for us to take the lead! At this point players started to truly believe we should be winning this game and play continued hard before Bournemouth achieved a cracking field goal, hats off to them that space was tiny! With our keeper less than impressed we continued. Fortunately with Tanya up front it was just a matter of time before she found that net again in another open field goal. 2-1 up and time ticking by we were trying to maintain our control when we gave away a penalty corner. We went out strong but unfortunately it slipped past and the score went to 2-2. Not seeing much time to turn it around Poole swiftly passed the ball looking for goal scoring opportunities. A penalty corner against Bournemouth was awarded in the last moments of the game. Full time was blown and the whole team pushed up desparate to make something of this amazing chance to take the win. Sadly it was not to be!

A great game with two new members achieving MOM: well done to Bex and Winnie.

Obviously this match reporter acquired DOD for her timekeeping skills :/

Poole v Beaminster

Tough start to the game for Poole but held Beaminster off well. Most of the first 35 minutes played in Poole's attacking half applying plenty of pressure to Beaminster's defenders. Poole's persistence paid off with a goal in the first half. With a 1-0 lead into the second half of the game Beaminster was able to creep a goal past the keeper to bring it back to 1-1 on a short corner. The fight for the next goal was on, Beaminster pipped Poole to the post, quite literally, on this one and the score was 2-1 to Beaminster. With energy and time running out Poole attacked bring it to 2-2. The full time whistle blew and two well performed teams could happily say "match well played".

Finale score 2-2.

Poole V Yeovil 3

ladies

Poole ladies had the pleasure of playing away at Yeovil. It was an early start, too early for some as one of our midfielders arrived at Ashdown in her pyjamas. Unfortunately for Yeovil their tactics of trying to use sleep deprivation to catch us off guard failed. Turns out we like an early start and Jo scored the first well worked goal. Poole worked hard as a team, Danni working especially hard at collecting balls from the side line as the rest of the team forgot about having a right midfield for much of the first half. The second goal came from AJ’s excellent strike from a Poole wing it 1 0 1 penalty corner. The second half was a closer affair with Yeovil pressing more, thankfully for us some of Yeovil thought they were playing tennis lobbing balls over the defences head and giving Poole some free play. The third goal was another penalty corner. This one was clearly planned out by Ruth, Nickie and Danni beforehand and had been practiced many times before and in no way was a lucky fluke. Thankfully a goals a goal. The last few minutes saw Yeovil scored a well deserved goal, possibly because some of the Poole team had now drawn their attention to the pie and chips waiting for them after the match but despite this Poole worked hard as a team and it paid off.

Poole v Salisbury 4

The second game of the season showed a team who were a united front against more equally matched Salisbury. With plenty of communication and support for each other, we showed the opposition we were not a side to be messed with. Going 2-0 up at half time with Cathy and Tanya scoring, we were making good use of our subs to have fresh legs and lungs throughout. The second half started a little slow, as everyone was a little tired from kicking ass in the first half, but we stayed strong, and with a couple more assists from AJ, we went 3-0 up and secured a solid win.

Cathy got the well deserved man of the match award for her help in the defence and attack, whilst holding the middle strong. A good win to the first home game of the season. Nice one, ladies
